Two complementary exhibits at Union Station (30 West Pershing Road, 816-460-2020) — America I Am: the African-American Imprint and We Are Kansas CIty — trace the African-American influence on the country and the city we live in. Artifacts in the nationally touring America I Am, some dating back to the 1600s, are displayed throughout several galleries. We Are Kansas City is a free supplemental show, with objects from such local institutions as the American Jazz Museum, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and the Black Archives of Mid-America, documenting "some of the highest and lowest moments in the city's African-American past," says Andrew Mouzin of the Kansas City Museum. The shows run Tuesday through Sunday, through January 8. Tickets for America I Am cost $12 for adults; $10 for seniors, students and military; and $8 for children.  See unionstation.org for more information and the exhibition hours.
