Anson Funderburgh

Friday, December 3, at the Grand Emporium.

You know it's the holidays in Kansas City when that man with the one-of-a-kind suit shows up. No, not that guy -- Anson Funderburgh, the man who has single-handedly Bogarted all the finest vintage suits in North America. (If they're too big for Funderburgh, they go to harpman and vocalist Sam Myers.) Funderburgh is famous as a subtle bluesman. No pedals, no effects -- just a man and a Strat settling in and doin' the blues right, with the flair coming from his Rockets. Fresh off a deserved W.C. Handy award for Best Traditional Recording (for Which Way to Texas?), the Rockets will do their traditional thing -- just fingers and lungs doing the love thing all over our holiday season.
