Apartment 26

Wednesday, May 5, at The Granada.

Like the David Lynch film from which it takes its name, Apartment 26 defies easy categorization. Although the group has toured alongside headbangers such as Rollins Band and System of a Down, Apartment 26 could hardly be described as a workaday metal outfit. Sure, the hard-rock riffs are abundant, and pretty boy vocalist Biff Butler is the offspring of Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler. But the band's penchants for pop structures, weird electronic dashes, drum-'n'-bass snippets and even jazz musings distinguish it from its formulaic peers. Given the family connections, it's no surprise that the outfit cut its teeth on Ozzfest's second stage before recording its debut album, but subsequent years on the road paid handsome dividends for the band's 2004 follow-up, Music for the Massive.
