Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (Domino Records)

England's Arctic Monkeys have it pretty good right now. Along with topping UK singles charts with "I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor" and "When the Sun Goes Down," the four-piece sold a record-breaking 360,000 copies of its debut in its first week on the shelves. So what's all the fuss about? Sure, the band sounds like nothing more than a supercharged version of the Libertines, Art Brut or any other recent post-punk export from the UK. And yes, Whatever People Say I Am is an incredibly lame title. But despite all of this, the new blokes on the block live up to the hype with a barrage of high-octane guitar and pop hooks, and frontman Alex Turner half-drunkenly charms his way through songs about fucking, fighting and fleeing from the coppers, the cornerstones of any successful night out on the town.
