AROUND THE WORLD IN THREE DAYS

Your budget is tight, or you're out of vacation days, or the Transportation Security Administration is on your case because you share a name with someone on the watch list who tweeted that he stowed an IED in his checked luggage — those are the times we're especially thankful that cinema is our backup passport to the world. For beleaguered homebodies, persons of interest and cineastes alike, the windows to the world open wide tonight through Saturday at the second International Film Festival in Woodruff Auditorium at the University of Kansas' Kansas Union (1301 Jayhawk Boulevard in Lawrence, 785-864-7469). Beginning at 7, a winning KU-student-produced short film opens each evening of the festival, which spotlights award-winning shorts from Mexico's Expresion en Corto film festival. A reception follows each night's screenings in the adjacent Big 12 Room. Admission is free. For more information, see suaevents.com.
Thu., Feb. 18, 7 p.m.; Fri., Feb. 19, 7 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 20, 7 p.m., 2010
