Artcetera

Whoops! What with your Labor Day-weekend pilgrimage to the Lake of the Ozarks' Party Cove, you completely forgot about First Friday gallery openings in Kansas City. Now that your aquatic bacchanalia is over for another year, you might take the time on this Second Friday to see some local art on both sides of the state line. Honeytree Gallery (504 East 18th Street) opens an exhibit by multimedia artist Brandon Gay called Youth's Truth with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Gay's photography, illustration and collage works are on display for one night only. In downtown Kansas City, Kansas, the YWCA's 6th Street Gallery (1017 North Sixth Street, 913-371-1105) anchors the area's monthly Second Friday Art Walk, showcasing artwork created by at-risk youth. Imago Dei Arts Center (1015 Minnesota, 913-233-0266) hosts the Concordia University Art Department Show from 5 to 8 p.m., and the Kaw Valley Arts and Humanities Gallery (756 Armstrong) offers Native American Folk Arts: Living Traditions alongside A Photographic Narrative: The Indians of Kansas.
