Ascent

When: Fri., May 18, 7 & 9 p.m. and Sat., May 19, 7 & 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $15
Last October and November, the musicians, sound engineer, animation designer and astronomer who make up Dark Matter took their Rocket Grant and launched two high-altitude balloon-camera systems that recorded images of KC and the state of Missouri. What came back forms the basis of their presentation, Ascent, an audiovisual journey from 95,000 feet in the air, set to an original music score performed live as the pictures are projected onto the 60-foot screen of the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium at Union Station (30 West Pershing Road, 816-460-2020). Ascent runs Friday and Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m. Tickets ($15) can be purchased by calling Union Station or at unionstation.org. For more information, see darkmatterkc.com.
