Bag People

Anyone who has ever arrived home with crushed eggs or smooshed bread can tell you: Grocery sacking is a lost art. As in many endangered disciplines, though, it still has noble practitioners with blinding skill. The best of them go full double-bag for the annual National Grocers Association's Best Bagger Contest — an event captured by documentary filmmakers Alex D. da Silva and Justine Jacob with their movie Ready, Set, Bag! The 80-minute documentary follows eight grocery sackers as they train for battle. The film screens at Tivoli Cinemas (4050 Pennsylvania, 816-561-5222) at 3 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday. The short film Leonardo plays before the feature. A portion of the proceeds from the screening will benefit Harvesters Community Food Network and Feeding America. For more information, see readysetbag.com or tivolikc.com.
Fri., March 25, 3 p.m.; Sat., March 26, 3 p.m.; Sun., March 27, 3 p.m., 2011
