Barbaric Merits

While their tag-team moniker doesn't connote easygoing ways, local DJs Dublow 7 and Mythik aren't nearly as brutish as the name Barbaric Merits suggests. Some bass-heavy tracks from Barbaric's most recent project, New Mutations, do offer swift-kicking violence to mainstream ideas of musical coherence. But others, like "Dollar Bill Gem," an unexpected and lighthearted meeting between tango and hip-hop, assure listeners that the scribbling and scrabbling are all in good fun. Dublow and Mythik are two fixtures of the hip-hop scene, who render original beats and remixes steeped in genres as disparate as the political affiliations of Obama administration appointees. Joining their cabinet this Thursday at the Riot Room are MC Vertigone (of Guild fame) and Dayshift (a duo comprising MCs Ben Grim and EMC, who presumably will just have gotten off work). Awe is hosting; extra support on the decks is provided by the almighty DJ Just.
