Beer tasting at Flying Saucer, September 28
September 29, 2009
On Monday night, Pitch Clubs Editor Berry Anderson went to the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium for a beer tasting of selections from the Founders Brewery in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This year, Founders will roll out approximately 23,000 barrels of beer aged in gypsum mines (by contrast, Boulevard Brewery will produce more than 141,000 barrels) for distribution in 14 states. Michael Bell, Founders' director of sales, called his products "big, complex, unique, oddball" craft beers.

First up: Dirty Bastard, the malty, top selling beer of the line that claims to be "so good, it's almost wrong." Paired with Gruyere cheese, the smoky flavored beer made with seven different types of imported hops was rather boozy at 8.5% ABV.
