In the future, student meteorologists will sit around in their podlike classrooms, downloading historical weather reports into their skull-implanted PCs and laughing their gyroscope-guided asses off at the two-dimensional inanity of twentieth-century radar screens. Ooh, look, the big green blob is coming this way! Warn the leader! Fortunately, Channel 9 has already forecasted that dreary, futuristic scene. Check it: When a line of tornados blew through the Kansas City area last May, Channel 9 said bye-bye to the radar approach and gave us helicopter commando Johnny Rowland's mesmerizing live shots of a tornado in progress. Hell, Channel 9 anchor Kris Ketz even sacrificed his home to the devastating twisters just to give his own station a sweaty, emotional interview.
