Best Antidote to The Lazer's Programming Change

KKFI 90.1

Since KLZR 105.9 made the switch from pseudo-alternative rock to something even more mainstream, there's been no shortage of complaints about the lack of good radio in these parts. Well, it's true there's no good commercial radio. But KKFI 90.1, Kansas City's community radio station, is true alternative radio, with a programming line-up chock-full of shows you won't hear anywhere else. There's all kinds of music -- blues, jazz, rock, folk, hip-hop, gospel, and American Indian, just to name a few -- and scads of public affairs programming. But the truly amazing part isn't the diverse programming, it's the fact that it's all done under the power of volunteers. --MR
