We all know what happened when Eve tempted Adam with a juicy red apple, but other biblical references suggest that the fruit of the agrestia poma has powers even greater than lust. "Comfort me with apples, for I am sick of love," goes the Song of Solomon. And what better comfort for a love-weary heart than the combination of a crisp, tart apple and the succulent meat of the crab (which Pacific Islanders have long insisted has intense aphrodisiac qualities)? That's precisely what Circe's chef-owners Nathan Feldmiller and Jonathan Phillips do to create their visually stunning and exceptionally tasty salad of sweet dungeness crab and tart, grated Granny Smith apples, topped with a topaz-colored crown of beet-tinted apple. A few bites of this dish and you may get so comfortable that you won't want to stick around for the rest of the meal.
