Though they precede the main meal, appetizers usually seem like an afterthought, some generic deep-fried this or cheese-smothered that. Frankie's on the Plaza serves shrimp in a butter-garlic sauce so irresistible that even after the seafood disappears, smart diners will hold onto the plate until they've soaked up every drop with the complimentary bread. We're also fans of the lobster-and-shiitake pot stickers, which come with a marvelous mango sauce. Even the more standard options, such as fresh mozzarella with tomatoes, just taste better here.
