No official bar-games body has sanctioned — or even named, as far as we can tell — what we know as "Ring on a String," the mysterious rope-and-steel-hook attraction that hangs from the ceiling just outside the Lava Room's restroom. We don't know how it even got there. But at some point, a true genius of minimalism applied his passion to placing a ring ... on a string ... on a hook ... in this bar. The object is to unhook the ring, stand back, cast it — the ring remains attached to the string — and then attempt to swing the ring onto the hook. Simplicity. As the night wears on and glasses empty, this becomes less a lark than a quest. Best of all, it's free.
