History can be bottled. And it can be turned into rubs and slow-cooked pulled pork. George Gregory Smith used his family's experience with barbecue to provide the foundation for opening Gregory G's BBQ in November 2008 with his wife, Wilma. Smith's grandfather, Cecil Smith, was a caterer in Kansas City. Cecil managed to impart the secrets of the smoke to Greg while he was growing up, and Greg has put those recipes to good use with hickory-smoked, tender ribs and outstanding sweet-potato fries. Tucked between the Pharaoh Theatre and Clinton's Soda Fountain on historic Independence Square, Gregory G's has a timeless quality. And you'll find Greg behind the counter every day, ready to serve you a little piece of his family's history.
