When it comes to breakfast, the general consensus is that it's a lot more fun to eat in anyone's kitchen besides your own: There's a sense of luxury in having someone else pour your coffee, butter your toast and fry your eggs. That's the feeling at Kate's Kitchen, which First Watch veterans David and Kelly Hendrix opened in the Northland, sensing it needed a clean, well-staffed diner that served modestly priced omelets; French toast stuffed with scrambled eggs, melted cheese and sausage; eggs Benedict, including a version made with a crab cake and fresh tomatoes; pancakes; and a plate of greasy little slider cheeseburgers that may or may not cure a hangover but are amazingly comforting with a mug of coffee and a fresh fruit cup.
