Blue Bird Bistro

Lavish Sunday-morning brunches, centered on steam tables heaped with congealed eggs Benedict and yellow globs of scrambled eggs, are all but passé. Sunday morning is much more leisurely and satisfying at a soothing spot like the Blue Bird Bistro, with its antique tile floors, crisp linen tablecloths, fresh flowers and distinctive brunch menu. The Blue Bird's idea of eggs Benedict combines crispy polenta with poached eggs, gilled herb-bison sausage, smoked gouda, a slice of fresh tomato and a fragrant, spicy arugula-pesto hollandaise. And the omelet du jour might involve exotic mushrooms, gorgonzola cheese, red peppers and pumpkin seeds. This is one place for a sleepy-eyed couple to settle in at a booth and split a bowl of fresh fruit and the City Garden Special. Manager Dan Hale sometimes plays gospel music over the sound system to get diners in a Sunday kind of mood.
