Best Calamari
The Capital Grille
Several terrific appetizers adorn the Capital Grille's menu, including a platter of cold shellfish and seafood cakes that are so gorgeously light that they all but float off the plate. But the restaurant's heaping dish of calamari fried in garlic butter is unparalleled. The squid is spicy, golden and crispy, intermingled with a medley of sautéed hot cherry peppers, pale green pepperoncini, roasted sweet peppers and green onion. The combination of peppery punch and crunch is so addictive, two hungry diners can polish off a lavish portion in less time than it takes for Sade to sing "Your Love is King" over the sound system. This appetizer is the most-requested item at the Capital Grille's shiny granite bar. Bartender Ernesto even has a guarantee: "I tell my customers that if they don't like the calamari, I'll eat it myself!"
