Best Cheap and Easy Golf
Osawatomie Golf Course
Some weekday afternoon, combine a thrillseeker's road trip with the beauty of the countryside and take in eighteen holes of low-stress golf. On I-35, go south just past Olathe and get on treacherous Highway 69. Notice all the little crosses. They mean "slow down and don't pass." Twenty-six miles later, exit the highway just past Paola, drive three miles down a winding country road and find the Osawatomie Golf Course. Here, out-of-towners can play for $12 if walking, $20 with a cart. But on a weekday afternoon, the course will be almost empty, the cicadas will be buzzing and no one will be on the first tee. Hack away: You'll find no sand traps, water on just one hole and wide spaces between fairways. On the way back to the city, stop in Osawatomie or Paola for a burger and lemon-lime at Sonic. Tally up that scorecard and smile.
