Best Cheap Breakfast
The Trolley Inn
This long, narrow "building" really is a trolley car. Built in 1903, the former Number 125 on the Kansas City line took riders from downtown to Independence. Since 1951, however, it's been delivering robust -- and darn cheap -- breakfasts via the Bonjour family. On any given Saturday, Linda Bonjour is behind the counter, cracking eggs over the griddle and frying up some of the lightest, fluffiest pancakes you'll ever taste. For less than five bucks, you can get a short stack, along with two eggs, toast, and a mess of crunchy hash browns. There's usually a newspaper floating around to read -- or just talk to the regulars; they have opinions on everything.
