Best Chief

Larry Johnson

Perpetually angry running back Larry Johnson made opposing defenses feel his pain in 2005. Taking over for a busted-up Priest Holmes, Johnson ran 1,750 yards, setting a Chiefs record. His performance quieted the doubters. Famously dissed as a diaper wearer by former head coach Dick Vermeil, Johnson established himself as the best running back in football. Breaking with the tradition of bland-as-can-be Chiefs stars, Johnson has complained about being uncomfortable here, and Vermeil's retirement did not quiet the complaints. But the comments shouldn't upset folks too much -- Johnson was unhappy with the way he was treated in college, too. Some athletes simply like to carry giant chips on their shoulders. Fortunately for Chiefs fans, No. 27's are big enough to handle the weight.
