University of Missouri-Kansas City Men's Basketball
Rich Zvosec's fourth year leading the UMKC Kangaroos started miserably. The team went 0-7. But in January, the 'Roos got their act together and ripped off an 11-game winning streak. Excitement buzzed around the program, culminating when more than 7,000 people found their way to Municipal Auditorium to watch UMKC beat Oral Roberts. UMKC finished the season with a 16-12 record, and Zvosec was named Mid-Continent Conference Coach of the Year for his remarkable act of triage. He's a funny guy, too, as evidenced by performances in TV commercials and on his radio show. The latter is broadcast from Lew's in Waldo, where Zvosec has made it a routine to buy a round. Cheers!
