Like everyone else, we go to the Mixx mainly for its fabulous create-your-own salads. We were thrilled when Jo Marie Scaglia opened this healthy-eating emporium just south of the Plaza in December. We know we're not alone -- it's packed with greens eaters every time we go (which is often). But here's the thing: Eating so right lets us dispense with the guilt when it comes to dessert, and the Mixx's cupcakes are damn near perfect. They're not cupcakes as much as they are small cakes -- they look like they've consumed another cupcake. (We hold ours with both hands, like a small child drinking from a cup.) During a year when cupcakes have been especially trendy, the Mixx's cupcakes won several taste tests in our office. Go ahead and gripe about how we're giving a cupcake award to the city's best new salad place. We'll be busy eating both.
