Steamboats no longer dock at the port of Weston, but you can pilot your motor car up to the town any day. Just 45 minutes north of Kansas City, the state Route 45 shopping district and the historic downtown are made for antiquing. Take your appetite over to Green Dirt Farm to learn how sheep's-milk cheese is made. That tour neatly complements a visit to the Pirtle Winery for a sip of mead or cherry-chocolate wine. You'll need a reservation at the Vineyards, but the restaurant's clam chowder and rack of lamb are worth a little advance planning. For a quick bite, try the Weston Café, where the omelets are plate-sized. At night, descend into one of the two remaining stone cellars at O'Malley's 1842 Pub for a pint of Emerald lager and some live Irish music. If one pint turns into six, the quaint, hospitable Saint George Hotel, built in 1845, is only a five-minute walk from O'Malley's.
