The Hill Special at Garozzo's 526 Harrison · 816-221-2455
At Mike Garozzo's place, a frugal diner can make a decent meal from two excellent appetizers: a plate of the tender, sauce-drenched pork neckbones (when they're available) and a hunk of garlic bread for about $6. But the ultimate bargain meal has to be the Garozzo's tribute to a dish that's a longtime tradition in his hometown of St. Louis: the Hill Special. The complete meal includes a tasty house salad, a lot of bread and butter, and a hefty plate of spaghetti, mostaccioli or cavatelli pasta ladled with sugo. Sure, it's a carbohydrate orgy, but it's good, it's filling, and it costs about ten bucks (before tax and tip). And you won't be hungry for ten hours afterward.
