Best-Dressed Band

Big Jeter

Whether the members of Big Jeter are performing on stage or rushing the stage (as they did at the 2001 Klammies awards show), they always manage to stand out, thanks to their great sense of style: eclectic-meets-variety-show chic. Collectively, the band probably has more accessories and props than Hedwig -- and that's a compliment. The band is inspired by such diverse local fashion icons as Mr. and Mrs. Hap Hazerd, Colonel Billy, Fred Broski, the Watsons girl and Chocolate Soup, and these influences show up in some of the articles of clothing that band members have donned at various shows. At one recent Hurricane gig, frontman Jeter stripped from his usual white button-down shirt, suspenders and tie combo to a short black vinyl dress, a metallic raspberry thong and a royal blue bobbed wig. And Gladiola Dishwasher was clad in two '40s-style swimsuits and torn fishnets while wearing red cutoff stockings on her arms.
