It's common knowledge that dive bars are the places to go for cheap drinks. Therefore, it's no surprise when Dave's Stagecoach Inn took that concept a bit further with this handwritten sign behind the bar: "Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade: $1.50 O.B.O." Bartender John Yuelkenbeck says he resorted to taking bids because he couldn't get rid of the stuff. "It was just a goofball thing to do," he explains. "It's just horrible stuff ... it's not really a Dave's drink. It's too Plaza-ish for Dave's." Yuelkenbeck says that most people just pointed and laughed at the sign, but he did get some offers. The lowest he sold it for was a quarter. "Then one guy thought $1.50 was the special and drank 2 or 3 bottles -- he didn't know what 'O.B.O.' meant -- and when the guy next to him started laughing and paid 75 cents for it, he got pretty mad." Surprisingly, no one offered goods or services in exchange for drinks, though a Pitch staffer admitted offering his library card -- a bid he retracted when he realized he still wanted to check out movies. Though the bar finally got rid of the Hard Cranberry Lemonade, Yuelkenbeck thinks that shots of Peach Pucker (which he describes as "cloying") might be the next candidate for O.B.O. clearance status.
