Taking inspiration from mash-ups (the DJ-inspired blending of songs -- say, New Order's "Blue Monday" with Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" -- to make a new dance track), Grand Arts hosted more than two dozen artists, architects, musicians and other arts-minded folks for a month and a half of, uh, parties. We said it -- parties. And we like parties very much, so we have no complaints about Mash-Up! 8 Weeks of Mixing It Up and Throwing It Down, though we're still not sure what the point was of all those parties. As for Grand Arts' own manifesto -- "In place of one clear theme or idea we offer you many, with the hope that there might be something for almost everyone within this motley mix -- a thought, exchange, or encounter that will resonate after the hors d'oeuvres are eaten and the video projectors are turned off" -- well, at least they were honest.
