Over its ten years in existence, the Iron Horse Golf Club has firmly established itself as the premier public golf course in the Kansas City area. At $70 for a weekend round, it is pricey, but that keeps the crowds down and allows golfers to better enjoy the challenge presented by the course's mature trees, rolling hills and plentiful water hazards. The fairways are narrow, but not ridiculously so. From the white, blue and black tees, the course offers distinctly different games. Iron Horse finishes with a test, a lengthy par 4 that requires a tee shot over scrub and an approach shot over a ball-grabbing creek that winds through most of the layout. Safely home, golfers will have earned their beverage at the clubhouse, and the city of Leawood will have earned its $70 green fee.
