Hilary Brown opened her popular Local Burger in Lawrence in 2005. Now her place has a following of fans who prefer local grass-fed beef (without added antibiotics or hormones), buffalo meat, elk meat or an all-natural turkey patty served on an organic bakery bun and topped with Kansas-made cheddar. There's a decent veggie burger here (meaty rather than doughy) for those who prefer eating a grain product shaped into something that looks like a burger instead of the real thing. This year, Brown added crispy fries, cooked in coconut oil, to the menu. But the new addition we're really looking forward to is her promised second location in Kansas City.
