Best Hoop Dreams Come True

Kareem Rush

After two years riding pine in the NBA, Kareem Rush finally found another role with the Los Angeles Lakers: savior. Rush became the team's one-man stopgap against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals, coming off the bench to go 6 for 7 from Three Point Land. Prior to his breakout, the former Pembroke Hill and Mizzou cager had shot just 35 from beyond the arc. He'd never hit more than three treys in a game. But on May 31, Rush netted his last bucket with just over 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter, after turning a shooting stalemate into a 10-point lead, ensuring a Game 7 and stealing the spotlight from future-hall-of-famer teammates Shaq and Kobe in front of a capacity crowd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. In Tinseltown parlance, a star was born.
