Best Hot, Young Floral Designer
Dan Meiners
Former graphic designer Dan Meiners turned his focus to flowers six years ago and, in the fall of 2000, opened a small studio in a downtown warehouse. Meiners -- who is just as photogenic as some of the imaginative floral creations he's whipped up for local magazine covers and photo shoots -- has doubled his business every year since then. Last April, he moved his company into the former Universal Exchange Building on Kansas City's old Film Row, a perfect Hollywood setting for his collection of sophisticated gift items (including some of the city's most expensive candles -- heavily perfumed French Mathias votives in crystal containers) and dramatically composed floral arrangements. Meiners has, in the past few years, usurped Chuck Matney's position as the leading society florist, which has made his work the ne plus ultra for upwardly mobile brides. Meiners' client list includes Café Trocadero and the American Restaurant, where, a decade ago, he worked as a waiter. His career has certainly blossomed since then.
