Houston-raised Kansas City Art Institute graduate Nathan Fox is the best working illustrator in Kansas City, the best in the Midwest and strongly in the running for best in the entire comics industry. There are life and movement in any comic Fox illustrates, and he's done a few — Dark Reign: Zodiac, Fluorescent Black and Joe R. Lansdale's Pigeons From Hell, among others. His commercial illustrations have appeared in publications as disparate as Heavy Metal, Time and Wired. Fox's outsized talent is matched only by his work ethic: Where other comic-book illustrators produce original art scaled up only slightly from the final product, Fox's pages are enormous, his drawings well-constructed but pleasingly fluid, hyper-detailed but easy on the eye. Fox is a born maximalist. There's something epic in even the quietest of his panels.
