No restaurant seems less like a diner than Masalas, which is indisputably the most glamorous Indian dining spot in the city. The elegant décor is one reason that this restaurant is different from most of its less-snazzy rivals, but the cuisine is more eclectic and varied, too. In addition to the repertoire of butter chicken and other familiar Indian dishes, Masalas serves large, crepelike dosas; savory fried lentil doughnuts; excellent tofu dishes; and tangy, sweet-hot chicken mango pathia in a fresh-tasting sauce of mango, tomato and onion. The staff is slick and professional, and the ambience is dark, soothing and pretty damn sexy — like the food.
