Christopher Elbow Chocolates

If you've ever been to Brennan's in New Orleans, you've probably had the bananas Foster. Brennan's created this dessert of bananas, caramel and flaming rum, and it's as decadent as it sounds. Now picture it — the sticky sweetness of the caramel, the earthy bananas, the sting of the rum — concentrated into one bite. Yeah, that's what Christopher Elbow does. The American Restaurant's former pastry chef manages to capture some smack-your-mama-for-not-making-this dessert into a single little square of chocolate. And at his new store in the Crossroads, you can see Elbow himself pulling vanilla from bean pods or shaving the rinds off lemons. If you don't mind parting with, say, $38 for a set of 21 chocolates, you can gorge yourself on chocolate with Vietnamese cinnamon or just a simple chunk of Venezuelan dark. Suddenly, you don't have to go to New Orleans to be decadent.
