The biggest bullies in Penn Valley Park wear light blue and kick big red-rubber balls: Shake n' Bake, two-time World Adult Kickball champions of Kansas City, are the New York Yankees of Kansas City kickball, a team stacked with playground ringers. A third championship was within Shake n' Bake's grasp this past spring. That was until they met the sombrero-wearing, mariachi-blaring good guys: El Guapo, the Kickball Desperado. A bottom-of-the-fifth rally — and an overthrow of third base — helped El Guapo advance to the 2008 spring championship game, which the team won. The celebration looked like a World Series win, with players hugging and jumping in the middle of the field. WAKA kickball gets pretty serious for grown-ups kicking oversize balls and downing beers. And you can't talk drunk and kickball without mentioning reigning flip cup champions Team Awesome. This last year, WAKA proved it's the big leagues of Kansas City kickball.
