If Westport Laundry had no claim to fame greater than Mighty Margaret -- a huge washer wearing a sign dubbing her the biggest washing machine in Westport -- that would surely be enough to earn the locale high marks. But it has so much more than that. Offering several different kinds of washers for the finicky launderer, Westport Laundry tries to make everyone happy -- even people who don't want to wash their clothes at all but would rather have someone else do it. Yes, the staff will wash your clothes for you. They also go that extra step, selling not only detergent, as most laundromats do, but also button-replacement kits, lint brushes and pet-hair-removal rollers. Taking into consideration the need for productivity among those waiting for their clothes to be clean, Westport Laundry also supplies an Internet connection terminal and vending machines galore -- though the latter are hardly necessary with Jerusalem Bakery right across the street. Plus, this place never seems to have mysterious puddles on the floor or be plagued by any kind of stink -- the only scent is that fresh laundry smell you'd have to be soulless not to love.
