To avoid running all over the metro, an on-the-go shopper must be very resourceful or have already discovered the bounty to be had at Grand Slam. The place reopened in mid-April after the demolition of the previous location next door. The old spot was famous for jars of hot pickles and the colorful cast of ne'er-do-wells outside. Now, Grand Slam is brighter, cleaner and better stocked than ever. Need a bottle of Louis XIII? Here. A peach-flavored Swisher Sweet? Got it. A meatball sandwich on the way to work? Hook it up at Grand Slam. "It's like QuikTrip, but with a mom-and-pop vibe," says 26-year-old manager Chad Galloway.
