When it costs $50 to fill up your Chevy, two bucks doesn't buy much. But it will get you into what has been, for about a decade, Kansas City's most reliably rockin' good time on a Sunday night. It all began with a dude named Jay Zastoupil (rhymes with ... never mind), who got bored one day and decided to bring the rock to the Plaza. Zastoupil's black mop and glasses are still visible just about every Lord's day around 11 p.m. You can see him nursing a beer at the bar and watching the crowd become a drunken whole with the band squeezed into the corner. If anyplace proves that KC is one hard-drinking, over-rocking town, it's P. Ott's at this "Monday wrecker." With great recurring acts such as Rex Hobart and the Misery Boys and the Lust-R-Tones (Zastoupil's own group), plus frequent out-of-town guests (one of the best shows of the year was courtesy of a French ska band called Les Fossoyeurs), man, it's just fuckin' worth it.
