Best Local Musician

James DeWees

If it seems as if every other cul-de-sac kid with his heart dangling from his Dickies is a member of the latest soul-baring suburbanite band to spark, pop and fizzle in the minds of the mall-rat masses, it's because he is. But even in an era when anyone who spends more than $200 at Hot Topic is offered a slot on the Warped Tour, it takes skill, panache and a little bit of luck to be a member of not one, not two, but three bands capable of scoring space on the iPod of every angst-ridden 14-year-old girl in the country. And that is precisely what James DeWees did this past year as a member of emo icons the Get Up Kids (which released Guilt Show and toured with Dashboard Confessional), the sardonic side project Reggie & the Full Effect (which wrapped up its latest album and notched two Pitch Music Awards) and pop-punk princes New Found Glory (which DeWees joined as a tour keyboardist before contributing to the band's latest album, Catalyst).
