Best Marquee

Uptown Theater

Not only does the Uptown's high-visibility marquee inform commuters on one of the city's most-traveled streets about upcoming events; it also gives touring acts the impression that Kansas City is a must-stop destination for top musicians. It's versatile, too, surrendering space for wedding kudos ("Congratulations, Tony and Steve") one night, then emptying the letter box with upcoming shows the next (P.O.D., Incubus, Iggy Pop and Union Station battled for u's and p's on a recent slate). During concerts, artists occasionally comment on upcoming headliners (Paul Oakenfold marveled that Erykah Badu would be taking the same stage the next night). And even if they don't do so publicly, it's likely that they'll at least chat with their entourage about who'll be following in their footsteps.
