In every city, it seems there's at least one Internet watchdog who turns his Web site into a referendum on local media. Fortunately, Kansas City's resident media maven has a sense of humor. For about a year, Antonio Botello has been running Tony's Kansas City, a Web site that we figure must take a lot of work. Every morning, the University of Missouri-Kansas City communications grad puts together about a dozen witty one-liners about the day's news, with links to the sites of newspapers, television stations and other area bloggers. Occasionally, Botello lets his right-of-center crankiness come through, but for the most part he's an equal-opportunity satirist, savaging politicians and journalists of every persuasion. (This paper has certainly not escaped TKC's jabs.) "For about a year, I was reading [other area bloggers] and thinking we should be making more fun of the news in Kansas City," says the prolific poster. "I've actually seen people come up to local news anchors and ask for autographs. Imagine people caring what Kelly Eckerman has to say!" See what we mean?
