Kansas City supports two major nightlife districts, two KC Rep stages, two theater companies dedicated to the history of the musical, and two minor-league baseball teams. It figures, then, that we'd boast more than one riffing-on-a-movie comedy show. The champ is CounterClockwise Comedy, which routinely sells out roasts on such crap as Ghost and The Bodyguard. The group is even daring enough to lampoon classics like Jaws. (Sample joke: "If you play it backward, it's a movie about a shark that keeps throwing up people until they have to open a beach.") Catty and cutting masters of well-observed one-liners and in-the-dark timing, the members of CCC roast one turkey a month through the end of the year.
