Origami cranes to dangle from your ears, pretty puppy piggy banks, flatware with zippers, teapots with ridges, a tiny sink that drips blue paperclips — such are the delights in the gift shop at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Best of all, though, are the books — shelf upon shelf upon shelf of oversized volumes on architecture and rock-and-roll photography, pocket-sized guides to green living, and even instructions for making your own Egyptian hieroglyphs. Of course, much of the inventory in the Nelson's expansive boutique reflects the themes on display in the museum. So those whose souls are stirred by the portraits in a featured exhibition can pick up a glossy coffee-table book and take the feeling home forever.
