In honor of his Scottish heritage, Graham Cummings named the Bickering Tree Lounge after the Bickering Bush, a Scottish battlefield where William Wallace fought the English. But even though the soul of this Raytown watering hole is Scottish, the Bickering Tree is a pure Midwestern drop-ceiling bar — there's no dark-wood pub décor here. One wall is adorned with cop badges (Cummings is a retired Kansas City, Missouri, officer), and the bar draws a mix of off-duty officers and locals. The friendly bartenders serve up insanely cheap drinks, and if you ask them nicely, they'll show off the bar's R-rated glassware, including a figurine that looks like St. Peter from the front but resembles a phallus from the back. Nothing gets the conversation going like a naughty figurine and cheap beer.
