The Trouser Mouse
The Trouser Mouse, a spacious beer-and-pool-tables joint with live blues four nights a week, is run by Angel and Brad Mallen, a sweet couple who jumped from the sinking ship of Club XO in Westport to open their own place two years ago. Besides having a great name, the Mouse boasts great blues -- Trampled Underfoot and Four Fried Chickens and a Coke play here, and Angel tries to book young, up-and-coming acts from all over the country. People drive in from Sedalia and Warsaw to hear them. The place is cute but not cutesy, with plush monkeys lurking amid the bottles of liquor at the bar and a table full of kids' games to play with. "We came out here just to be happy," Angel says, and she's hellbent on making others happy, too, by doing little things, such as keeping the kitchen open until midnight and the fryer bubbling until close.
