Thanks to its delicious food and tasty beer, Free State Brewery is a perennial draw. However, on Monday nights, when a rotating list of beers goes on special for $1.75, a more eclectic crowd gathers. Town and gown are represented by dreadlocked hippies (living up to their stereotype by wearing tie-dye and smelling of patchouli), hipsters and the preppily dressed -- all united in their love of cheap, high-quality brew. The bar itself has an interesting history: Opened in 1989, it's the first legal brewery in Kansas in more than 100 years. And judging by the drinkfest that is a Monday night, we'd say Free State is making up for lost time nicely, thank you.
