Walsh's Corner Cocktail
Hidden in a strip mall near 85th Street and Wornall, Walsh's Corner Cocktail is a roomy, well-lighted bar with a sportscentric bent. For the past 23 years, owner Pat Walsh has thrown a party on February 6 in honor of Babe Ruth's birthday — a feat so wonderful that The New York Times wrote it up in its sports section earlier this year. The other days of the year, the Corner Cocktail attracts an easygoing crowd that's as diverse as the surrounding neighborhoods. Waldo hipsters share the fake-wood-office-table space with blue-collar drinkers, all lured by cold, cheap beer and good burgers.
