Best Neighborhood Bar: West

Court of Appeals Pub & Grub

Occupying a small, dimly lit storefront in old-town Shawnee, Court of Appeals is easy to miss if you're not looking for it. It's also easy to mistake for a cop bar because the letters C-O-P-S dominate the storefront sign. The small bar gets its name from the plight of the owner's husband, who was denied workers' compensation after being shot 10 times in a liquor-store robbery more more than a decade ago. The Irish-themed hangout also features free Texas hold 'em poker four nights a week and karaoke on Saturdays, as well as strong pours, a cheap pool table, and a jukebox heavy on country tunes.
